behind the lens: wedding photographer Jof Panlaqui

You know that feeling of dropping off your film at the print shop and you start counting down the minute until the hour you have to pick up your photos? Yup, that’s the feeling I’ve had for a few weeks now waiting for the pictures from the styled shoot to come back. A few weeks ago, I had such a pleasure of working with some amazing photographers on a winter styled shoot in the snow. I shared all the behind the scenes action with you here on the blog. {click here to read full post on #BTS action from the shoot!} See photos from each photographer from the shoot:  Brittany Drosos // Laurentina Photography
I have been dying to see how all the pictures turned out. I’ve seen a few on IG, but I wanted to share the entire collection from each photographer with you. I’m so excited to share them as part of a new series, Behind the Lens! Okay, are you ready for the big reveal?! {drum roll please!}

When I met Virginia Wedding Photographer, Jof Panlaqui, a few weeks ago on a style shoot. I knew immediately that he was truly one of those fun-loving creatives who truly loved what he does. He was very welcoming and outgoing, completely willing to chat about photography, all with a smile on his face.
Jof is the principal photographer at Joffoto. 6 years ago, he became interested in photography as a hobby. He started out by taking pictures of his then pregnant wife, Riza, and family and friends.

“My perspective in photography has changed when my son Alex was born… from the day I bought my first DSLR (having no clue how to change the lens or to turn the camera on), until today, I can tell you that my passion in photography has not changed. I never stop learning to master my craft.”

His work has been published in Northern Virginia Magazine and Modern Luxury Magazine in Washington, DC.
Your big day is special and should be given special attention, especially the photographs. The photos will remain with for the rest of your life so that you can relive one of the most amazingly magical day of your life. Jof understands the importance of this and works with his clients to learn more about them by meeting with them on multiple occasions. After the final contract is in place, he turns his attention to the wedding location.

“If the location is local I visit a month or 2 weeks in advance before the wedding to study the natural lighting and potential backdrops. For destination I come in a day or 2 prior the wedding to study the natural lighting and potential backdrops.”

[PRO TIP]
The one tip I would offer photography enthusiasts and clients alike is that if you are planning a photo session, try to book it either early mornings or late afternoons – these particular times of the day will give you the perfect ‘soft lighting’ in the photos. If you want to be more creative, you can use the soft sunlight to create some whimsical and romantic effect; it provides a soft yellow/orange tone for the photo. Just put the sunlight behind you, that’s it! Keep in mind, you may need a less powered flash or reflector if the sun is overpowering.

Not only was this shoot so much fun {seeing three different photographers at the same shoot}, but seeing the final shots from each of their perspectives is such a unique experience. So in the next coming weeks, I will be featuring each of the photographers and their works here on ACB in the new ‘Behind the Lens’ section.
Thanks Jof for sharing your work with us. These images are amazing!
‘Til next post!
