Hey, guys! Happy Halloween weekend! Have you ever been apple picking?

So for the longest time we have wanted to go picking–fresh fruit anything–from local farms near us, but we always seem to miss the picking schedule. We just literally missed peach picking so I definitely didn’t want to miss Fall apple picking. There are seriously so many fall activities to choose from here in Northern Virginia, all you need is an afternoon and some willing participants! LOL.. my family is trying to get out more so I’m so happy we all decided to go apple picking as a family since we’ve never been.  It was such a great experience to share together. I like seriously had THE BEST time! I will definitely want to do this every year!

For our first apple picking we went to Stribling Orchard (it was the only orchard still admitting for apple picking this late into October). Since 1819, six generations of Stribling have raised fruit on the land. Their peaches are available from mid-July through mid-August; their apples from mid-August through early November. The have fresh cider and pumpkins starting in mid-September, too. They have a Harvest House on the land where you can buy cider, honey, jams, jellies, salsas, local cheese and eggs, Virginia peanuts, and freshly baked goods.

The apple varieties that were available for picking were red delicious, gold delicious (yellow), and York (blue). I believe they also have MacIntosh (white), Grimes Golden (white, yellow), Jonathan, Royal Gala, and Fuji to name a few, but since they peak at different times throughout the season we’d missed those. We got a bushel of red delicious, gold delicious (yellow), which I have already made apple pie with as their perfect for baking and eating. We also shared some of our pickings with our neighbors! Apple picking is such a fun family activity and it was definitely a fun family experience we will never forget. The orchard is so beautiful and seeing other families out there enjoying the beautiful orchard on a perfect fall Virginia day was just amazing!
